Robocop was released in 1987 in theaters. It was a unique take on the action genre, one that fans ate up. I wish I could say the inevitable sequels were as good. Anyhow, let’s not discuss those right now, instead lets focus on the great first movie and fans around it. As was par for the course at the time, action movies got videogame releases based around them. Robocop was no different. Data East made sure to release an arcade game and Nintendo Entertainment System game based on the movie. Now fans are working on bringing the cyborg police officer to the Commodore Amiga with an AGA port that looks quite well compared to the arcade game (the NES version cannot compete here).
If you are not familiar with the Robocop movie then, well, you may want to make sure you have a strong stomach. It is quite graphic in how Robocop comes to be, particularly in how the officer used becomes the donor body.

Those that have only played the games have been spared this scene, and many others from the movie. Maybe it is for the better that warehouse scene is left out. Although it could be interesting as a prequel, like how Konami did it with Symphony of the Night. Have you control the officer (who knows his name? Without looking it up) through the warehouse level and obviously lose in graphic style.
The arcade game was very clean and detailed. It was apparent from the get-go that the Nintendo Entertainment System was not going to be able to compete. Ocean Software did an admirable job with it though.
If you are familiar with Commodore Amiga games then you probably know that Robocop saw an official release in 1989 on the platform. That version was more akin to the NES game rather than the arcade version.

According to Indie Retro News, DanielAllsopp is behind this new AGA port of Robocop for the Commodore Amiga. So far, his work is impressive. Just look at the embedded video above.
It is stressed that this is still quite early in development with lots of work to go. Even so, this is phenomenal already.
