These branded publications were something I avoided like the plague back in the day. I always figured the coverage was going to be skewed towards every game covered being the best things since sliced bread no matter how bad it was.

Once Gamefan folded, I pretty much gave up on gaming publications as EGM was long since a corporate shill publication by the early 2000's.
