Ever want to race karts with Garfield? You know, that Monday hating, lasagna eating, chubby kitty. Sure, on mobile, a few console releases and some PC appearances, you could have done this already but until now, not on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Thanks to some talented programmers, you can now take Garfield and company out for a few laps on the track.
This hack is based on R.C. Pro-Am and a few hacks that used it over the years. The two hacks this hack is based on are “Mario Kart” from 2008 and 2017’s version. A lot has been changed back, redesigned, or redone to make this hack unique.
For those few that are not familiar with R.C. Pro-Am, it is a 2D overhead racing game. You whip around smaller tracks and try to take the number one spot.
In Garfield Kart you get Garfield, of course, Odie, and Jon Arbuckle to play with. Gameplay features most of the staples of the genre – power ups such as Turbo Acceleration, Sticky Tires, etc. There are also bombs and missiles to collect and use strategically.
You start with Garfield and must unlock Jon and Odie through gameplay. If you collect all the letters to spell GARFIELD, then you can earn a faster kart to race with.
There are a total of 32 courses to test your lasagna powered skills on. Can you handle them all and come in first?
I have said it before and I will say it again, Garfield is such a weird character to use for these games. He is more suited to cooking games or puzzle games yet everyone wants to put him in kart racers or action platform titles (Sega did this on the Sega Genesis and, I believe, Game Gear).
Why?
