G.I. Joe is one of those classic franchises that suffers from a severe lack of representation in gaming. Transformers used to be right there with the “American Heroes”. While the giant robots changed their gaming fate with Michael Bay’s entries, G.I. Joe was still on the out. It seems that we are finally going to get a G.I. Joe game that is worth playing.
Why G.I. Joe has been absent from gaming is almost a crime.
This franchise is simply perfect for gaming. Action? Covered. Covert ops? You can do that too. Visual novel/digital comic? Why not. Racing, car combat, air combat? Again, I can easily see a G.I. Joe game based around that. Why no one has done it yet is beyond me.
G.I. Joe Operation Blackout seems to be covering a lot of those bases (outside vehicular combat anyhow).
I am not a big fan of cell shading, but it appears to be used sparingly here. Thank goodness.
Fans will finally be able to not only play some iconic good guys but baddies too. From Duke to Baroness (hot without showing any skin) to Cobra Commander and the dueling ninjas and more.
What is shown in the trailer above is impressive, I just hope they can hold it together. Fans of the franchise need an entry to gather around and support.
I just hope this is the beginning and we get more entries, in different genres. Seriously, who would not want to play a covert ops game as Snake Eyes? What about a brawler with characters like Sergeant Slaughter?
