Flashback, the sequel to Another World/Out of this World, saw release on many platforms. Among them was the 3DO, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/CD, and Atari Jaguar. It also saw release on computers such as the Commodore Amiga, MS-DOS, and Macintosh computers. That last version mentioned, the Macintosh, is important to the Sega Saturn port since it is the source being used.
A Cinematic Platformer by Any Other Name
You may remember Flashback for its interesting marketing campaign – CD-ROM game on cartridge” being the more prominent one I remember. What gamers got was a story driven action platform adventure, very similar to but more straightforward than, Out of This World/Another World.
Flashback is not a sequel to Out of This World/Another World. The only link between the two is the developer, Delphine Software.
2D sidescrolling action fans will do well to check out Flashback, no matter the platform.
Here Is Why the Saturn Port is the Best Console Release
As mentioned already, the Macintosh version is the basis for the Sega Saturn port. There, done. That is why.
Okay, seriously, the Macintosh version runs in 512x448 resolution, literally double the other releases. That means more detail (duh) and better/clearer graphics. On top of that, the Macintosh version provides 256 colors on screen (easy for the Saturn to do) and a rock solid 30 Frames Per Second (stop laughing, 30 is quite good for 32-Bit consoles).
On top of that, the Sega Saturn version benefits from the amazing Sega CD soundtrack being used here. There are also additional cutscenes to check out.
