The Cursed Knight is a homage to 8 and 16-bit games such as Metal Storm and Ranger X. If you are a fan hard as nails action games with various genres mixed in for good measure then, your game has arrived. It is available now on Steam for about $10.
Much like the games The Cursed Knight pays homage to, the setting is in the future. I guess game developers are learning to place these farther into the future as here, it is the year 3122. Everything we know about life, the world, is changed, mostly gone forever. Society is no longer something we would recognize.
Now the Earth is a principality of Dallongeville. The ruler it answers to is named King Alberich. Oh, there is only about five million inhabitants across the whole of Dallongeville – literally the last of humanity here.
You take on the role of Kalder, protector knight, through genetic enhancements, you are much more powerful than a normal human. Your goal is to help fight back the invading armies from all over the galaxy to protect the last bit of human life there is.
The Cursed Knight features many call backs to classic titles in gaming. You will see bosses that remind you of Dynamite Headdy, Mega Man, Contra Hard Corps and Contra III and much more. The amount of call backs to the classics is off the charts here.
Genres represented here include run and gun, scrolling shooter, puzzle action, and more. If you can survive that is. The Cursed Knight is squarely in the Ninja Gaiden style of play that was popular in the 8 and 16-bit days – die and retry.
Learn from your mistakes basically. The question is, will you? Can you? The Cursed Knight is currently available on Steam for about $10 so might be worth a purchase.
