I don't know what it was like in other parts of the world, but here in Romania the communist period was a dark period, a period when you didn't have the right to an opinion, you stood in line like sheep to buy food, but you stood in line and the food was by portion.
This helped me to respect my parents even more, knowing that they went to great lengths to make sure I didn't feel the minuses.
I think all our lives we will have something to learn.
