Good morning, friends!
Today I bring you a lot of photos from a walk near the beach.
Near Viana do Castelo there are quite a few clean beaches. They are well known by the locals, being particularly used by watersports fans. 🏄♂️
A few years back these areas were not easily accessible since you'd have to cross some bushes covered dunes to get there... but nowadays you will find wooden paths everywhere, put in place by the city hall.
These paths run along the beach and go on for a few kms. It would take you at least 2h to cover the entire course.
Although it's a long walk, it will never be monotonous, you will encounter a lot of lovely places and great looking trees in all shapes and forms. 🌳🌴🌲
Next to these trails there's a camping site, here's the part reserved for parked cars and caravans:
This camping park is not just for tourists, though. There are a lot of families actually living here, if not all year long, at least all through the sunny seasons. In Portugal this is around 2/3 of the year. 🌞
As you can see, these are no small tents, they are large enough to serve as complete houses, with several rooms inside. Many of them even have a living room and kitchen.
And of course, why not set up a table and a barbecue grill outside? 😎
Nevertheless, I doubt there's a bathroom - I believe they all must share the common toilets scattered throughout the camping site.
The large trees surrounding the park keep the tents a little bit cooler. In fact they are indispensable, otherwise the people would be truly hot inside. So hot it wouldn't be livable anymore. 🤪
As you can see, the largest part of the site has a nice shadow cover...
As I walked along, I saw a closed up tent which seemed empty...
When I zoomed closer I realized there was a "For Sale" sign. And a Satellite TV dish, too!!! 📡
I wondered how much it would cost...? 🤔
For those who can't afford a traditional house or apartment in today's current markets, living at a camping site like this might be a good solution. 🏕️
Besides these tents I also saw some concrete homes. These are better options, for sure... But none were for sale.
The place seems nice and there's even a water well up front. Could it be active... Or just a remnant from the past? It would be useful to get drinkable water from there.💧
This camping site looked so cool I even saw a black cat going in. I wonder if he lives there, too. 😆
The park is situated in a forested area, your only neighbours will be your fellow campers - be them locals or tourists.
The access to the local beaches is made by foot. There are beautiful paths surrounded by trees just outside the camping gates.
This couple went along on a romantic walk while I was talking these photos. 🥰
Just a few hundred metres ahead the path opens up a bit and the landscape changes as the forest gives way to dunes and beaches. Out with the snails and squirrels, in with the crabs and seagulls. 😄
There are beaches for everyone here, some are larger and more crowded, while others are smaller and empty...
If you want peace and quiet while you finish that novel, this is the perfect spot for you. 😎
As you move further closer to Viana do Castelo the beaches will have more movement...
This scenario goes on for a while: beach to the left, dunes to the right.
After some time walking you'll eventually reach a place to relax, drink something and grab a bite.
There's a nice coffee shop here but it's a busy place, you'll find a hard time getting a free table outside. Your best bet is to bring a book or a MP3 player and wait for someone to leave.
I hope you have enjoyed my article and photos. Please leave a small comment down below. 😉
