The Colt 1911 is a single action semi-automatic handgun which takes a .45 ACP bullet/Cartridge . The first 1911 was made in the year 1911 hence the reference to the design by most as "the 1911".
This gun was originally designed by John Browning and was the standard issue for the US armed forces between 1911 to 1985.The reason I like the gun besides the great design , is the rich history behind it and the fact that it has been used in World War 1 and 2.
The 1911 is my definition of a reliable gun that one can call upon to protect lives as its durability and dependability is unsurpassed. I am truley blessed to have the series 80 and the difference between the series 70 and series 80 is that the series 80 has a firing pin block, the series 70 doesn't, also the series 80 has a slightly different half-cock notch than the series 70.
Although the above is quiet rivetting I must admit that the Colt is not my carry gun however it does not make my love for the gun any less. I occasionally take my Colt out to the range but it has become more a show piece more than a gun that I would use to protect my life and the reason I dont want to use it as carry is more wanting to preserve it forever.
You can see that this gun has blueing on the slide however over the years it has a bit of ware but I dig the look ! Wont be doing any work on it for now.
