As I have now been playing "Splinterlands" for over a year, I've wanted to contribute something of ACTIONABLE value to my fellow players (and FUTURE players) - but NOT just fill my #Hive feed with daily images of quest reward - or battle - SPAM (no offense to those doing so). Ultimately, Hive is about ADDING VALUE to the social experience - that is the magic of blockchain social media technology. So, after some serious pondering, I decided that a weekly "Splinterlands" player strategy diary" type series, with CONCISE and ACTIONABLE tips, would be of most value to my audience. Please let me know your thoughts (good and/or bad), and I hope that readers (now and into the future) will benefit from this series. If you gain a better understanding of blockchain, gaming, "blockchain gaming", marketing, psychology, ethics, forensics, philosophy, investing, and/or any other area(s) of knowledge I end up exploring (voluntarily or involuntarily) as this series naturally progresses, then I will have done my "good deed" (of providing value) for the week - in addition to having a nice little boost of Hive income (from these posts) to use to buy more Splinterlands cards. Also, feel free to hit me up on the battlefield.
1 ) I have started to warm up to the new "anytime" tournament format. When the new format was introduced I tried one tournament, and one qualm I had was that I felt that the "feel" of the new format was less "real-time" than the original format, which I liked, because it felt more "tournamenty". Now, I understand that the benefit of the new "anytime" format solves the significant issue of including MORE players in the tournaments, and it serves that purpose well. I have been proposing to @splinterlands admin that it might be IDEAL to have a MIXTURE of "anytime" and "original' tournaments ( for instance, one of each tournament format daily), so that players have the opportunity to enter EACH tournament daily. I will continue pushing for this into the future, in the hope that admin "gives in" this idea. I, personally, would play EACH tournament daily. ANOTHER benefit of the "anytime" tournament format, which I have grown to appreciate this past week, is that it allows you to more easily control the pace in which your "capture rate" decreases ( for instance, by being able to ALTERNATE between playing your regular "ranked" battles (which depletes your capture rate with each battle you play) with the "anytime" card-choosing". So, for example, you can play one ranked battle every 30 - 60 minutes, and then choose your cards for one "anytime" tournament battle on the alternating 30 - 60 minute period. In this way, your capture rate replenishes at a FASTER rate than if you had played TWO ranked battles in the 60 - 120 minute period of time. This additional flexibility prevent you from descending into the "purgatory" realm of "low capture rate", where your DEC income is so low that your DEC earnings make your effort less productive.
2 ) In the previous post I mentioned that I was focusing on getting more familiar with the other Splinterlands players, mainly by reading more of their posts. The problem is that I've been so busy multitasking that I haven't been as consistent as I have wanted to be, and so I implemented a simple organizational task this week, which is simply keeping the #splinterlands "trending" hashtag page open in Hive all day ( /trending/splinterlands ), and browsing the trending posts a few times each day ( let's say browsing one post every hour (when I have the time to do so). This helps me get a better sense of who is out there posting about @splinterlands, and what they are posting about.
In addition, since I have been in the process powering down all of my Hive (in order to load up on some of the important cards I have wanted) I am now preparing the strategy I will follow on Hive AFTER the power-down is complete. When I first initiated the power-down I did so with the understanding that I would be using Hive (into the future) mainly as a Hive-earning tool (where I will convert the earned Hive (from my post payouts, and from curation of other people's posts) to DEC to buy more Splinterlands cards). So now I am trying to figure out as many ways possible to earn more Hive into the future, but in an ETHICAL manner. One of those ways is, of course, through the payout from each of my three weekly series posts (inluding this one, which has regularly received a nice, JUICY upvote each week (fingers crossed that that will continue). But this week I realized that, after all of the "Steem vs. Hive" CHAOS, I simply need to "get back to the basics" of this platform. That is, one of the often-neglected, yet valuable, ways to earn Hive is to curate good posts. And so, IN COMBINATION with my new focus on consuming more Splinterlands-related posts, I have also decided to increase my upvoting activity on the higher-quality posts. But since my time is limited so that I can't read AS MANY posts as I would like, what I have decided to do is automatically upvote the posts of a select group of regular posters who post about Splinterlands. I already have a list of a nice handful of these posters, and this week I will experiment by upvoting all of their posts to see how much Hive curation income I can generate from doing that effort. Let me be clear, I am in no way ABUSING my upvoting ability. I am simply SUPPORTING those Hive posters who I know are putting out good content related specifically to Splinterlands and/or 'blockchain gaming", and as a result this will ALSO help me increase my weekly earning of HIVE (we're not talking "big bucks" here, but enough of a weekly boost in Hive income to be buy a few much-needed cards). For instance, if I can ultimately earn $5.00 - $10.00 USD worth of Hive per week, with this newly tweaked strategy, then I would be content with that. In fact, I will set that as the goal for now. And since the posts in this series have been consistently earning at least $5.00 USD per post, then my goal will be to try to generate another $2.50 - $5.00 USD per week (in Hive) through my daily curation activity. I will monitor the Hive income as it rolls into my account each day for the remainder of the week to get a more accurate rough metric on how close to the $2.50 USD I can come.
3 ) In previous posts in this series I have discussed, in significant detail, my strategy of starting to divert PART of my monthly DEC earnings (from my daily Splinterlands activity), into OTHER cryptocurrencies. I have explained that I have been considering the possibility of buying up ~ $5.00 USD per month of BTC (to replace the BTC I have spent over the past year on Splinterlands pack batches, potions, etc.), and I have also considered buying up Dogecoin, simply because of the low price of that coin (which would enable me to buy up a significant quantity of that coin each month). Well, it turns out that Doge had a significant pump this past week, which (according to news stories in the industry) was catalyzed by a #TikTok campaign intended to "pump" the coin. Now, regardless of whether the fundamentals of Dogecoin are "non-existent" (that is, the coin is built on the foundation of "the meme") doesn't even matter. Right now, I hold somewhere in the ballpark of 50,000 DOGE, and at the current price of ~ $0.004/DOGE, if I were to use $5.00 USD worth of my monthly DEC earnings from Splinterlands to buy DOGE I could purchase ( $5.00 USD / $0.004/DOGE = ~ 1,250 DOGE ). Then, if Doge PUMPS again any time into the future, I could potentially make a significant profit ( considering the "multiplier" ( that is, in investment terms, the LEVERAGE (profit potential) of an asset based on the low cost of the asset (and ability to hold A LOT of it, plus the low price, and so the potential for profit when the value of that asset moves EVEN SMALL amounts). This most recent PUMP of Dogecoin has finally convinced me that it is a REASONABLE (and likely BEST) candidate for me to start implementing my "monthly buy" (starting THIS month). I will monitor the price of DOGE every day for the next week to see if it falls back down to where it was before the pump, or goes up, or stays the same, and then I will make the first conversion of $5.00 worth of Hive into DOGE (likely NEXT week, using @blocktrades, which is well-integrated into the Hive platform). In fact, I will include a basic "text log" of the daily price of DOGE for several days this past week below). Many people have been conjecting over the years that DOGE has the potential to "moon" to at least $1.00 USD. If that ever happens I will be able to replace ALL of the Bitcoin I have spent on Splinterlands stuff in the past year, and have PLENTY of profit leftover to buy some more cards, and diversify into other crypto tokens I have wanted to buy. I think it's worth a shot. All I really have to lose is up to $5.00 USD per month, which is "chump change". Fingers crossed.
Price of Dogecoin following this week's substantial "pump" (whose causes are conjected in the following post:

4 ) Great progress has been made o the #DrugWars front -- that is, NOT in terms of direct activity related to the game ITSELF (which I have significaly decreased this past week), but in terms of the progress of the original Drug Wars gang effort, which has now mobilized SIGNIFICANTLY further along in our effort to get the momentum going in #Splinterlands. In fact, the ONLY tasks which I actually did directly in Drug Wars this week was log in once a day to upgrade the "bunker" and "storage" units of all of my bases. This is actually one FURTHER step down (to bare minimum activity) from the previous week's activity. My reasoning for this further decrease in my activity is simply "opportunity cost" at this point. That is, from a strictly MATHEMATICAL perspective, I did the numbers to find that I actually earn more crypto income by opening JUST ONE *Untamed pack (which literally takes 10 seconds of effort) than I do in a WHOLE WEEK of activity (in DWD (Drug Wars Dollars) income) on Drug Wars. In other words, the LONG-TERM FUNDAMENTALS of Drug Wars are a "NUTHIN'burger" compared to that of Splinterlands. I have said ALL ALONG in the posts of this series that I was hanging on with Drug Wars promarily to support one of the few games on the Steem blockchain, but the reasons to continue with the game are dwindling by the week. I will continue with the very minimum tasks as I have this week for another week, but that is about all I will do at this point, before completely ceasing my activity on that game.
But the good news is that, judging from the steady progress made by the other two Drug Wars gang members (in relation to our daily Splinterlands effort) it appears that they agree. In fact, this week has shown STEADY daily progress on Splinterlands, with me dropping one Untamed card each day to each of the two gang members, and them showing consistent daily progress. Both guys posted their daily quest rewards, as well as finished the season up a few levels from the past - including myself (who finally reached the "Champion I" season level), and WE ALL posted daily interesting battles which helped show the others some of our cards in action. The new task I will be adding is to lease each player ONE of my higher-level cards per week, so that they can begin to get a taste for playing with the more powerful cards. I think this will be a further boost to general morale of the group.
5 ) Okay. As I did in the last post in this series, the highly-detailed "diary" of my daily #splinterlands activity is laid out in the last part of this post, for those of you who are inclined to follow, more closely, what I am doing. It occurred to me that this "diary" section is JUST THAT - a highly detailed record of my daily activity in the game, with some JUICY "play-by-play" analysis notes, and commentary, on what works, what doesn't, and some suggestions for further tweaking and experimentation. So, with this in mind, I hope some/any of you will enjoy this information. If not, you are under no pressure to read it fully, and are free to SKIM, or even IGNORE, any parts, or ALL parts, completely - at your discretion. I lay this out because it also HELPS ME to document my progress in the game over time, and may help some people NOW, and into the perpetual future...

Notes: I have been waiting and monitoring the price of the two "Dwarven Wizard" gold cards relative to the "Mermaid Healer" since I did the final batch-buy of Orbs cards two weeks ago. I had put the two "Mermaid Healer" cards onto the market, but the market has now been flooded with a LOT of this card at a much lower price than I have been willing to sell in order to buy up the two Wizard cards needed to bump that guy up to Level 5. I now have BOTH of these gold cards up to Level 5 (which will enable me to earn MORE DEC by using these "one level down from max" in battles. Plus, since the price of each cards is quite historically low now ( each of these cards was selling in the $35 - $40 USD range earlier in the year) it will now at least be POSSIBLE to buy up ONE card at a time ( five (5) more cards needed for each to max each one out) going forward. I may be able to burn some of the remaining EIGHT (8) Untamed airdropped cards as I get them to gradually buy up the remaining cards to max these powerful "gold promo" cards out, which will give 20% bonus each time I use each card (and win) in ranked battles. So the cards ultimate "pay for themselves", but the main issue is getting enough DEC together to ACTUALLY OBTAIN them. Fingers crossed.

No spending today. Actually, I GOOFED and converted ~ 10,000 DEC to Tron ( ~ 224 Tron ) to then play in BetFury.io to try to double the 224 to convert back to DEC to buy more Splinterlands cards (as I did one day this past week). The bad news is that I lost the 224. But the good news is that I am earning a passive daily income of ~ 6.0 Tron ( on BetFury.io ), and so this was a good opportunity to do the numbers to get a sense of how much Tron income I am generating (to calculate how many cards I can buy into the future). Well, at 6 Tron per day it will take 224 / 6 = 33 days. So it will take me 33 days to earn back the 10,000 DEC I lost yesterday, BUT now I know that AFTER THAT I will have 42 Tron per week ( 168 Tron per month ) to convert to DEC to buy more Splinterlands cards. Live and learn.
