The year 2017 marks Canada's 150th anniversary since its founding. And yet some six generations along since 1867, millions of people in Canada today suffer in poverty or experience relentless, stressful economic insecurity.
We want to ask you then: How might a Basic Income Guarantee affect your life and/or your loved ones? We invite you to answer that question in approximately 150 words and, by September 15th, send your reply to [email protected]. During the upcoming 10th International Basic Income Week (September 18-24), we'll collate the submissions and send them along to Prime Minister Trudeau and key federal Cabinet members (Finance, Health etc.) who are in position to introduce basic income security for all, from coast to coast to coast.

My story about why this is a great idea for the people in Canada.. Have you ever worked a day with no food or water? If this is you then you already know why this is very important. I encourage others to try working one day without eating or drinking its not fun and when lunch comes your like "lets just keep working ". Im 38 years old and always had a job until recently. I figured finding a replacement job would be easy as it always was for me. Months went by my savings dwindled away and i found myself appling for welfare. Well a simple cheque to help me out was too much it seemed, but finally a worker helped me out, with one time payment of 600$ thanks. They saved me that month. A few weeks went by and many resumes handed out 60+ only from a quota of 130 per month in a city with 90 jobs max and maybe 5 that im qualified for so ya i was gonna get booted off wefare anyways. Still with no call backs or even a interview. The phone rings, what whos this.. Its the worker from welfare, dropping me before next months cheque. Oh well at least i dont have to keep handing resumes to the same companies every day but still no job. After a few days stressing i got a interview then another interview. No job from them oh well them one day later a job offer came in dam rights ill take it. Now i work but the pay is so tiny i use the salvation army for supper and soup kitchens for food. So this is where universe basic income will pay off. Work starts early so i cant eat at the soup kitchen for breakfast. So now you hope to get home for 5pm, if not no supper. Also the food bank well you have to book for your hamper but when you work at the times they are open you can count that out. Ive made 9000$ so far this year wish i had a little more for food or even food stamps for people.
