I had been in the collections industry for more than ten years now. One of the most troublesome line of business that I had been to is credit card collections.
To be honest, overspending with your credit card is easy. You can just either swipe it at a local store or even enter your card details on the internet to make your purchase.
Overspending your card is serious as it ~~makes my job harder ~~ hurts your credit rating if the owed balance becomes delinquent.
In this blog post, I'll be sharing some tips that I have gathered from the internet and also from experience so that you can avoid overspending.
Always check how much is your budget and the amount that you can allot in your card purchases. If you bought an amount that you cannot pay as a whole, chances are either you will only pay for the monthly minimum payment or you will be on default.
If you pay for the monthly minimum your card will incur interest charges. If you got on default, you will get a phone call from the collections, have a late charge added on top of your balance and card usage will be suspended.
Always go and payoff your credit card before your billing cycle ends to avoid fees and also have a positive impact on your credit rating.
The majority of us are guilty of it. If you can avoid impulse buying I do applaud you. Have someone to give their opinion about the item that you are planning to buy. Think twice or even thrice before you make that swipe on your card. Determine if it is essential or non-essential. At times you can only see the benefits that the product which is their main goal.
Stores and merchants always have this kind of campaign. If you purchase a certain amount of money you will get some points, rewards, or rebates. Weigh the benefits provided, at times those points earned are not near to 1% of the discount that you had earned. Stick with your budget and do not feel bad if you are not able to get those points.
One of the best ways to avoid using your card if you are outside is by leaving it in your home. You cannot use something that you do not have and this is the logic of leaving it in your house. So even if you see an amazing item available, you do not have any means to pay for it with your card. You may see it as a simple way to avoid using your card but those simple ways are the one's that matter.
These are some of the tips that I can share to avoid overspending. If in case that you went on your limit, do not feel bad it happens to the majority of us. Just make sure that you will try your best to pay it the soonest to avoid trouble in the future. If you experience difficulty in paying it reach out to your bank and ask on what they can offer for you. We love customers who are proactive and willing to make plans for their finances. If we can come up with solutions for both parties then everyone will be happy.
Till next time - ciao!
