In a small house like ours co-sleeping is something that we practice with our little one. My wife and I usually had this discussion about what will be her age to be sleeping on her own.

Somehow it is still feasible as I have a different schedule with my wife and daughter. I am sleeping in the afternoon whereas they sleep in the evening, a normal person per se. I can only accompany them on Saturdays wherein I can spend the whole night together with them.

Now about the right age when to be honest, I do not know. From the time that I can recall I had been sleeping with my siblings hence I do not have any idea. But based on what I have researched with some of my friends the ideal age would be at least 3 to 4 years of age.

When I think about it, the age mentioned is somehow acceptable in the timeline that we have. As of writing, we are renting a small place thus separate rooms are not an option.

But our situation will not be the same in the next years after.

By the end of this year, we are planning to acquire a lot near to where we are renting a 50 sq meter lot then little by little buy some materials for our home. Floor plan wise, I have an architect friend that I can tap to ask for a quote on what will be an ideal amount to spend with the plan that we have. At least we have 2 rooms one will be the main room for us husband and wife and the other is for Dyn.

Three or four years of age is somehow a good age to start being independent. By that time she is trying to learn some things on her own as she is already in nursery school if face-to-face classes will be permitted. I myself isn't sure if my work will be on the same schedule as I am right now but nighttime has been my work schedule for more than a decade already.

We usually have her naps during the morning alone as I do my daily blogging and my wife's doing some house chores that are not completed.

Plans that we might consider doing:

  1. Once her room has been set up, we will move all her toys into her own room and all of the items for her will be moved as well.
  2. Lighting is a must, during the night time a small lamp will do to make sure that she will be sleeping soundly. Doors are closed still as we have 2 cats jumping everywhere.
  3. Music may be added, but not that required. Once she hears music may it be a lullaby song she switches her head to look where the sound is coming from (Maritess mode).

These are just some of our thoughts in the meantime as it may change in the future depending on how everything goes. Last night April had a hard time sleeping as Dyn was wide awake until 2:00 AM. It was a struggle for both of us as April cannot focus on sleeping and I, on the other hand, wasn't able to be attentive to my work as I need to make sure that Dyn will not fall on our bed.
