The next morning, Cesare drove me through terrifying conditions to a new apartment in a villa, which he had forcibly cleared out for Enzo. After discovering disturbing bloodstains and a threatening letter, Enzo settled into his new room, placed a photo of Empire Bay by his bed, and finally rested.

The next morning, Cesare came out to tell Enzo that he is not living in a hole anymore since he is now part of the Torrisi family. He said he had something to show Enzo and asked him to move to the passenger seat.

Cesare insisted on driving the car, and when Enzo asked if he was sure he could handle it, he joked that he could drive better blindfolded.

I relaxed and let Cesare take the wheel, but it quickly became apparent that he was a terrible driver. He drove like an intern, nearly crashing into concrete barriers before actually hitting one, yet he just kept right on driving.

Cesare even hit some concrete walls on our way while he was driving the car recklessly. Leo cried out that he didn't want to die today watching him drive like that.

After reaching a large villa, Cesare announced that we had arrived and led me inside. We met Pasquale, who had left the keys on the table after Cesare invited him there.

Following Cesare deeper into the big building, I had no idea what to expect. Cesare told me not to thank him yet and urged me to look inside first.

It turned out to be a brand-new apartment for Enzo. Since I was no longer a vineyard worker and was now part of the Torrisi family, I deserved a big place of my own.

I started looking around the apartment. Inside the wardrobe, I found someone's clothes, which Cesare suggested I try on or throw out if they didn't fit.

On a table, I spotted a threatening letter addressed to Carmelo from a "concerned friend," reminding him that his mother Evelina had a bad hip and that a son should be close at hand. It was clear that Cesare had threatened Carmelo, who used to live here, to force him out.

There was food left out on the dining table from a hurried breakfast, which Cesare dismissed as a family emergency. More disturbingly, I saw bloodstains on the floor, suggesting the previous occupants had been dragged out of the apartment just so Enzo could stay here.

Cesare brushed it off, telling me it was nothing.

He asked me to check the bedroom. Stepping inside, I saw a proper bed—meaning Enzo wouldn't have to sleep with the pigs anymore, as Cesare put it. Leo walked out of the apartment then, saying he was heading back.

Cesare asked if Enzo liked the place, and Enzo told him he didn't quite know what to say, other than it was great.

Cesare welcomed him, saying that when he first met Enzo, he thought working on a traveling ship was all he was good for, but Enzo had done well and they were lucky to have Enzo around.

They hugged each other, and Cesare remarked that someday it might just be the two of them. He suggested Enzo to take a bath, telling he would let Enzo sleep then and see him later.

Left alone to settle in, Enzo took out a photograph of a place called Empire Bay, placed it carefully beside his bed, and finally laid on the bed to get a sound sleep.

To be continued.
