What an amazingly interesting experience and the concept of the event itself. I fully agree with your father that there is no good or bad art. Art is art. As one of my photography teachers said, it's all just a matter of taste. Many of us have a great desire to create something, but we are stopped by what others say that creativity is far from ideal. And as a result, they will never know what they are capable of without even trying.
