Two years if you do nothing about it. We faced day zero here in Cape Town. The day the taps run dry. We avoided it by only using 50 liters of water per person per day for like a year.

It sounds like a lot but it's not. You have to still wash your clothes, wash, cook with it. Schools didn't allow children to use their water. They had to bring their own.

You couldn't buy drinking water because as soon as there is stock it was sold out almost immediately.

Gyms banned people from using their showers after fights broke out.

Neighbors reported people they thought were using more.

Our dams are back to 80 percent and we still have water restrictions.

If I can give one piece of advice that made a huge difference in my household. I have a Well-point and by flushing the toilet with that water I saved tons. Every time you flush your toilet that's 9 liters of your 50 gone.

edit. Please stop asking why my toilet flushes 9 liters. It's an old house. I don't flush with municipal water. US laws about 6 liters doesn't apply to countries on the other side of the planet.
