Depending on what question you ask, and how you ask it, you can get results to suit your needs. Unfortunately the reality in Canada is that the average tax payer doesn't want to see higher taxes. Then again, with proper taxation of the richest and biggest polluters in Canada, average families wouldn't have to pay an extra cent.

Every time industry is affected in any way, they just jack up prices to protect profits and nothing changes, except consumers take on more debt.

One of the biggest problems in Canada is the ridiculous amount of consumption and waste generation. Per capita, Canadians are some of the worst at both in the entire world. We can't keep consuming the amounts we do, we can't keep generating the waste we generate, especially if we aren't willing to deal with that waste ourselves, and reducing our consumption will hit the economy no matter what.

Looking at the environmental issues affecting us in purely financial terms will just guarantee that we never do anything real to deal with the problem.
