I was just posting my frustrations on my study group page, and the people there were wondering what I was doing, which made sense, I was outta place... this is perfect for me right now!
Hi. Erm, the best way I can introduce myself for you to get an idea of how much steam I have to blow off is by saying... I am from Nigeria and I live there 馃ゲ
I'm a student who stays in the hostel, and I have to say, I still haven't figured out the feeding problem. It's impossible! If you choose the easy path and frequent the restaurants, you're gonna get broke in no time!
So, the obvious, smart move is to cook, let's pretend I can cook in this scenario, that is now fucking expensive! Lemme slow down... say last year, you wanna get a crate of eggs, you'd grumble bout how you're bout to spend 800 or 900 naira on eggs... oh, yeah, that's the shitty currency and keeps losing value!
Yeah, went to the market last week to get a crate of eggs, guess how much! Fucking 1,900 naira! That's fucking 2k! For a crate of eggs! That's more than double what it used to be! And nope, it's not just eggs, it's everything!
A pack of spaghetti used to cost 180 bucks, yup, it costs 300 now. A carton of noodles used to cost about 1,900 before, now it's 3000! What do they want from me?!! Who did I vex?!!! Why are they trying to fucking kill me?!!! Now, buying food seems to be the smart thing to do!
Buying food that cost 300 a plate. To be honest I still wonder how she makes her profit. Yes, yes, the food is shit, but still, she still gives rice and plantain, and soup too... with meat. The quantity is small, believe me, it's very small, but after going to the market myself, I don't see how the food vendor stays afloat.
After eating this morning...and not your regular hour, had breakfast by 12:30pm, you wanna say it's brunch? Nope! It's not! It's breakfast! Anyway, after I was done eating, drank some water. You know that sensation you get when you drink water on an empty stomach? Yup! It hurts! That was it! That was what I felt after finishing my meal. Like I had not eaten in a while.
I did some accounting... I spend a minimum of 300 a meal... yeah, I've got an appetite and a high BMR, that just means I get hungry quick, so the barest I can do will be to eat 3 times a day. That's 900 bucks right there. To be honest, I spend more than 300 a plate because of how small a plate is, so I ask for some extra...
So let sum it up to 1000 a day. Shit. I knew I spent 1000 a day on food, but after typing it, it hit me all over again. What the fuck! This wouldn't be a problem if money be coming in, but nah, my allowance is 20k a month, so that means, if I'm so prudent, and decide to spend money on just food, even if I'm not eating half to satisfaction, my best hope is 20 days.
We all know I've gotta do other shii, so no, I'm not spending my money on just food, so in reality, and to be optimistic, I've got 15 days of food. What the fuck! That's how I've been, fucking hungry and fucked up! So maybe I should try the other approach, yeah?
Maybe I should go to the market and cook some stuff up. Lol, I really just laughed.馃槄
I actually did, I did, I was frustrated and hungry enough to go to the market to cook, spent over 15k, came back with a sac that I barely noticed I was carrying. It was light as shit! And the food that came of it... barely lasted 2 weeks.
Yeah, its checkmate. I didn't even know I was playing chess, but someone is definitely checkmating me! I got a number of friends that come through for me in my dark times... that's really how I pull through. I'm just really tired.
Oh shit, just thought, maybe all this will end when I'm done with school.
That just reignited my frustration and anger towards this fucked country!
