Your idea that one can not truly understand and connect with others without first understanding oneself is intriguing.
I think empathy and treating others' rights stem from a genuine understanding of one's desires, values, and experiences. This self-awareness provides a basis for defining how one wishes to be treated and guides them in reciprocating those behaviors.
It is funny to see how some people who know what they want for themselves yet exhibit contradictory behaviour towards others. This I can say is one of the challenges of human behaviour. Some people think they have all what it takes to get away with whatever they want. While some of them leverage on weakness of others.
