I watched him from my room on the first floor.

He didn't seem to notice me or anything else for that matter, he looked so deep in thought with a permanent frown on his face.

I wished I could appear by his side and kiss away the worry from his eyes. I wished I could trace the back of his head, like I do with guys when I wanted to subtly flirt and still maintain my serious face. I wanted to trace the corner of his lips and watch the side of his face spring up a faint dimple.

I wondered how far I could go, if I could trace his lips and watch as it envelopes my fingers like he wanted to blow them a job.

My mind kept wondering and I was naughtily smiling until I felt what seemed like a bucket of water on my semi naked body and on my bed.

The anger that coursed through me was like a volcano preparing to erupt. I could not imagine what anyone was thinking that could have made them pour water on my bed. Damn! Not my bed!

Even before I turned, I was sure I was going to spew hell and all the demons within it.

I did turn.

I turned and saw my annoying childhood friend with her misshaped teeth and her irritating grin, laughing like I was a comedy show.

"Happy Birthday, foolish girl!! Did you think I would forget?"

Oh lord!

Dunni had just desecrated my bed and interrupted my eventual love making because of a stupid tradition she just remembered out of the blues!

"By God, Dunni, you are a dead girl laughing!"

Without thinking, I jumped down from my soaked bed on the upper bunk and the next thing I heard was a crack.

My ankle died and I was flat on my face pouring out every obscenity from my throat. Even then, Dunni still had her misshaped teeth and irritating grin and a wilder laughter.
