I never knew the distinctions. Makes sense given all the tasks. It is interesting that in most cases these days with scientific papers that there is very little of any of this done. So little is done, that it would be best if each journal simply provided a LaTeX style and asked authors to use that. Instead, many still cling to word, then they have someone typeset the document, usually introducing all sorts of errors, especially if math is involved.
