I think the questions largely come because the rules of steem don't make a whole lot of sense and are actually quite opaque and too complex. Also, all of the advertising says you will get paid for your posts, unlike other sites, which makes people think that if they have a bunch of likes they will get a bunch of steem, but often you can get a bunch of likes and get very little steem. Steem is also lacking audiences for a number of content areas, such as technical areas, and lacking in content support (e.g., no support equations). Then you have the various self-annointed steem police and the pay to upvote posts that seem to be raking in the dough. It doesn't take too long for a new person to figure out that the original advertisement is kind of like bait and switch.
