"A healthy tongue is a tree of life, but the perversity in it breaks the spirit." Proverbs 15: 4
Once a teacher was showing the student the wrong to criticize or speak or depreciate the neighbor. Another child who was watching her next retruded, saying with a certain frankness: So, what should we talk about? I'm sure I was being much more honest among all the other people who think exactly the same, but they do not say it.
We have to be aware that our conversation should not be in full harmony. If everything you thought in these last hours was projected on a screen, will you be ashamed? We must say what we think, and think what we are talking about. If something is inconvenient to be spoken, also what is to think.
What should occupy our mind? We must fix our idea only on the true, pure, holy, edifying things. This is a precondition for experiencing the peace of God. The result of retaining in our memory what does not build will be loss of the joy of the intimate presence of the Spirit of the Lord.
The delight of the righteous is meditation on the Word of God. This was a favorite practice of King David: "My meditation will be smooth, I will rejoice in the Lord" (Psalm 104: 34). Those who seek to live in the blessing of Jesus Christ meditate on his Word to mold their attitudes and actions. Given this, how should we think? How should we proceed? How should we talk? What will be the consequence if we proceed accordingly? Our way will be prosperous, we will succeed in life, we will be channels of blessings and not a stumbling block. Brothers new to the faith want to see our examples, because we are positive referentials that shine like light. The rules for a happy result are: think well, speak well, act well. It is impossible to act badly if the thought is occupied with what is good.
"My God probe me." This is a just prayer for every believer. We must not only hate evil in the world, but also admit that there may be something in us that displeases God. We must be willing to ask Him to submit us to any trial that comes to contribute to increase his sanctifying work in us. If we open something sinful, the right thing to do is to abandon it and repent.
God has given us the voice to glorify Him, He wants our hearts and tongues to be united, speaking of His power and edifying one another. For this reason we have to avoid the misuse of words and observe our actions.
Remember, only you can prevent the forest from coming to burn, ruining God's property.
