Great things the Lord did for us, that's why we are happy (Psalm 126: 3)
Greetings and Blessings Family
The Lord is God of great things. He is an expert in surprising. Israel went through a period of exile. He was torn from his land, deprived of offering cults to his God. Live a long period of anguish, sadness and desolation.
God remembers Israel and provides means for them to return to Jerusalem. On the way home, Israel "was like those who dream" without believing what was happening. He thought his return impossible. As it says in Psalm 126: 1 "When the Lord brought those who returned to Zion from captivity, we were like those who dream." Although they were in strange lands, the Lord was with their eyes on that people and delivered them from so much servitude, making a great achievement.
The people were grateful to God for having granted them the privilege of returning to their land. They gave thanks and praises to God because they were happy. "Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with songs." (126: 2 part A)
The Lord's deeds were so great that the surrounding peoples recognized that the Lord had worked for Israel in a great way. The same eyes that saw the Israelites being taken to other lands saw the Lord bringing his people back. The nation itself recognizes that the Lord was truly with them. The God of his parents had done all that. The promises made to Abraham were still standing. "Then it was said among the nations: Great things the Lord did for them, yes, great things the Lord did for us, and that is why we are happy." 126: 2 part B, 126: 3)
Before the greatness that God had made, a certainty came from the heart of that people. The same God who allowed himself to be uprooted from his land, go through so many trials and struggles was the same thing that put an end to that suffering and in a tremendous way used men to free his people. "Return our captives, Lord, as the currents in the south" (Psalm 126: 4). We see in that passage that the psalmist illustrates the moment that Israel lives with the perennial rivers of the desert that with the scorching sun cease to exist and suddenly sprout in the middle of the desert.
Israel suffered, shed many tears in strange lands, but they were tears shed in the presence of God that allowed them to sprout from those tears, joy, rejoicing, freedom in the midst of so much oppression. Tears became responses to the requests of that people.
The struggles hit our door. The tests seem to consume us. But the same God who allowed our stay in the desert and the same God who takes us away, places us in places of honor and brings joy back to our hearts. The desire to continue on the walk fulfilling the ide of Christ resurfaced in our hearts and even those who point, criticized, will have to recognize that "great things the Lord has done for us, and for that we are happy." 126: 3
