Here we go again. Another piece of legislation that not only erodes our freedom but facilitates and legalizes surveillance. Under the guise of protecting intellectual property, the European Union Legal Affairs Committee has voted for tougher copyright laws. It will probably impact Steemit bloggers quite a bit, as many of us retransmit content that was created elsewhere. More generally, these laws will impact our ability to connect with each other fully and to disseminate information that is instrumental in our fight against a globalized system of control.
Now it is up to the European Parliament to “vote” on them. In fact it is not so much of a vote as it is a ratification. Most MEPs who have a very cushy job will pull their trousers down and bend over in our names, but there are a few MEPS out there who are fighting the same fight we are.
However modest or symbolic of a gesture it is, here is a petition that we owe ourselves to sign:
