I SOLD MY GUITAR
Hello Hive community 👋🏻. I’ve been away from the platform for quite a while because I’ve been very busy; complicated situations, as well as personal and social issues, have arisen over the last few months due to the reality we are living through in my country—if you can even call it "living" rather than just surviving, hahaha. But anyway! The good news is that I’m back—or at least I’ll try not to disappear completely. I want to keep sharing my art and my worldview with you all.
As the title of this post says, "I SOLD MY GUITAR." It’s true; I had to do it. As I’ve mentioned before, we are living—or surviving—through difficult times in my country. I don’t want to dwell too much on the subject; information about life here is available all over social media. However, if the community is interested, I might create a post—or a series of posts on different topics—sharing my perspective on each one. We could spark a debate or a sort of dialogue, moving from questions in the comments to answers in future posts—though that idea really depends on you.
They say that sometimes in life you have to take risks and sacrifice things you love to achieve other goals. Well, I had to make that choice; I practically had no other option. I lost my job, prices went up, inflation skyrocketed, and so on. I had to choose between music and putting food on the table. You might think, "Well, you can put food on the table by making music, too," hahaha, but on this island, that’s a losing battle. Monetizing your art here often means supporting a system—or becoming someone—that doesn't quite align with who you really are. Plus, there is a severe lack of artistic opportunities in provinces far from the capital, like the one where I live. Add to that the rivalry between artists competing for the top spots, professional jealousy, closed doors, a lack of support for new projects, and other contributing factors. Because of this—and my personal experiences within the cultural scene—I ended up disillusioned with everything I once believed to be real. I tried to pursue an underground career, bypassing intermediary institutions and relying solely on myself, social media, and my circle of friends.
And that is the crossroads where I find myself today: without my guitar, walking a tightrope over a cliff.
All I have left is the drive to create—because I can’t help it, because I need it.
Thank you for reading this far; you are a loyal follower, and I know you’ll join me on this cultural adventure.
Sincerely, Andy Díaz🇨🇺
