A while back we took a vacation to Tasmania, let me tell you Tasmania is not an island that is talked about very much amongst the world tourist, I think there would be many out there that would raise an eyebrow, Tasmania never heard of it what is it ?? Even us Australia's forget that Tasmania, is an island state of Australia. Tasmania use to be attached to Australia mainland, but history tells us that bout 12,000 years ago when the sea levels rose, Tasmania was broken away from our mainland and decided to float 240 km away from us further into the Bass Strait and now we have to fly 2 hours from Sydney, if you want to catch a glimpse of this island which today, is known as the 26th largest island in the world.
Tasmania in comparison with size would be about the same size as Switzerland having a population of about 550,000 people and the capital of Tasmania been Hobart, which sits on the River Derwent. We found Hobart, to be an very beautiful clean city with a lots of history to been seen, it still looks like an old settlers town with lots of old buildings and cottage houses spread out around town and is an very friendly town to live in, the locals were so friendly as were the people all over the whole of Tasmania, they all an real relaxed vibe about them only with the weather, it is very unpredictable you could have all four seasons in the one day almost every day.
This one cottage was my favorite with this beautiful little garden bed out front.
To me I found Tasmania as an smaller version of New Zealand, very green lush mountainous island with trees covering every mountain an very pure, refreshing and beautiful landscape island no matter what part of the island you where're on.
If you were to drive around Tasmania, on the outer main road it would take you approximately 22 hours covering an distance of 1,500 km. We didn't cover the whole area but we did see quite an amount of Tasmania, while we were there and every part of the coastline was just gorgeous with endless forest land, rivers and huge green mountains, it was like been on an Jurassic park adventure. And again very much like New Zealand with many farmland properties and grazing sheep's to be seen all over Tasmania, very rich in algaculture.
We did stop at some heritage land marks along the way one which was the Richmond Bridge and St John Evangelist's Church both were very well preserved.
There are also many Tasmanian giant forest which was one thing we wanted to see while in Tasmania, we were told about the Tahune Forest and the Airwalk in the Huon Valley, Hobart, which was 55 km drive from Hobart city. This was one place we wanted to see because of the rare tall trees that live there in fact, Tasmania is known for it's towering trees and unusual species of plants. They say that the second tallest tree in the world lives here in the Huon Valley.
Someone we run into doing his morning walk through the woods probably had a cabin nearby what a life yeah !!
After arriving at the Tahune Forest and Tahune Airwalk you had to climb up just over an hundred concrete steps ascending from ground level at an average steep climb to a height of about 50 meters from ground level once you achieved reaching the top and you were not out of breath you will proceed walking 600 meters along the Tahune Airwalk platform bridge, along this bridge you would be walking along, side these giant trees and taking in the breathtaking views of the Tahune forest, mountain landscapes with the Huon Valley River below.
Looking down 50 meters from the Tahune Airwalk platform bridge and looking across to the Huon Valley River, it was so beautiful and peaceful been up there.
This here is the Huon Pine, which is reportedly and were told by the guides that it is the oldest living tree on this planet and it can only be found here in Tasmania. I love all the moss and ferns growing of the trees was the perfect environment for them.
