As I screwed up the old newspaper for lighting the woodburner this morning,
with the snow falling heavy outside and the East wind worrying the tin roof,
I happened upon an obituary for Hannah Hauxwell,
that mentioned a documentary from the early seventies: "Too Long A Winter"
The dales and pennines in the North of England are where my forefathers lived.
And rock and moorland are embedded in my soul.
As I watched I was quickly moved to tears,
feeling some deep affinity for this woman and the hard living poetry of her life.
Photo I took this morning returning home after walking the dog, Norfolk, England.
