I leave certainty, at the edge of the room because it has spoken for me so often that I no longer know which thoughts are truly mine,
I leave certainty, recognizing how easily confidence can become another kind of inheritance instead of an honest discovery to reveal,
I leave certainty, refusing to let yesterday’s conclusions quietly dictate what today’s mystery is allowed to reveal from past mistakes,
I leave certainty, have I been protecting truth or merely defending familiarity once again in order to prevent pain all over again,
I leave certainty, in quiet reflection and in kind acceptance, the silence stops asking for permission to see and reveal the real me…

I stand unguarded, before the ordinary days without rushing to explain it into something smaller than it first appeared,
I stand unguarded, watching a forgotten street, a weathered doorway and an ordinary blue sky refuse to remain ordinary any longer,
I stand unguarded, realizing nothing around me has changed except the walls my attention quietly built over the years past by me,
I stand unguarded, have I overlooked small little miracles simply because they kept happening every day, as I dare not acknowledge,
I stand unguarded, the clear water, the bright blue sky, the cold wind, and those familiarities remove its disguise…

I cherish the feeling of amazement, from the tired voice insisting adulthood requires me to exchange curiosity for constant certainty and pure basics,
I cherish the feeling of amazement, because every beautiful discovery I hold dear first appeared ordinary and unworthy of further attention, I gave it away,
I cherish the feeling of amazement, believing my spirit grows older and matured only when I stop allowing surprises to interrupt my routines, and promises,
I cherish the feeling of amazement, am I growing wiser, or am I simply becoming harder to astound myself and harder to please for basic, simple things,
I cherish the feeling of amazement, as I begin to surrender and accept, and now, my forgotten innocence and curiosity sit beside me again…

I return differently, carrying knowledge with open hands instead of fastening it around my life like another invisible chain that I couldn’t let go of,
I return differently, grateful that every honest beginning asks me to arrive empty before it allows me to leave being transformed and ready to face the world,
I return differently, knowing the greatest gift I can offer tomorrow is not another answer but another willingness to see what’s more of me, and what’s more to life,
I return differently, can I meet the rest of my life as though creation has only just begun, like a mere transformation and unending opportunities,
I return differently, in learning and in acceptance to life’s new challenges, the first sunrise to awakening never truly ends, and I realize that the greatest gift is not becoming someone new, but embracing yourself on its own…

Watchwords:
The silence stops asking permission
The familiar removes its disguise
My forgotten innocence returns
Another willingness to see a new future
The first sunrise never ends
