Will we see a "number of views" counter on our profile ever on steemit?

There used to be a views counter on each Steemit post. However it was removed as it was found to be an untrustworthy measure.

When the views counter existed people were using it to justify whether a post deserved its level of upvotes. High value posts with low view numbers were considered to be suspect, for example. As such a views measure needs to be robust as otherwise there is scope for it to lead to damaging conclusions.

The need for a "number of views" counter needs to be weighed carefully against the privacy of individuals. Any counter which is based on the Steem username or IP address of the viewer risks being an invasion of privacy and in some ways could act against the freedom on which the Steem blockchain is based.

That said, with all the new platforms being developed I would expect this kind of measure to be added if there is sufficient demand, although probably on platforms other than Steemit.
