What are your thoughts on sequel and prequels and spin offs and reboots?

It's rare that a sequel is a good as the original film. The Godfather Part II and Return of the Jedi are oft-quoted exceptions that prove the rule. 

Two of the main reasons are:

• Originality: The original film will have the benefit of originality which can be a strong element of story-telling; the sequels will not do.
• Story Arc: A strong original film will have complete story arcs for the characters. Sequels have to re-open these arcs or create new journeys for the characters, which often feel laboured. 

As such in my view I think it's fair to say that sequels are just a way for the production company to make more money out of strong original film.

Prequels are worse since they risk corrupting the logic of the original film.

Reboots can be interesting. It's a good way to bring an old story to a new audience. However it's generally unnecessary for the classic films - these stand the test of time.
