My Steemit ID is 1,028,628, does that mean there are over 1mil users in Steemit ?

Your steem ID shows that there have been more than 1 million Steem accounts created.

However the actual number of users depends on how you define "users".

There are around 60,000 accounts that are active on any particular day, based on blockchain transactions, suggesting that the actual number of active users is much lower than 1m.

A number of these 60,000 accounts will also be duplicate accounts and bots.

On the other hand, these numbers do not take into account users that simply come to read, stream, or watch videos without transacting on the blockchain.

It is therefore difficult to put a precise figure on the number of active Steem users. Steem, like crypto in general, is still growing. It's still relatively early days for the industry as a whole.
