Really interesting post and questions. I think a lot of people treat Hive like it's only meant for serious, high-effort content - and I don’t fully agree with that. Most major social platforms became popular because they embraced short, easy-to-digest content. A filtered photo with a one-line caption on Instagram, a 10-second joke on Vine, a quick rant about grocery shopping on TikTok... That kind of content is what drives engagement and virality.

Hive is very blog-focused, and honestly, I think that’s part of the challenge when it comes to growing the platform. The same goes for short-form content: it’s not well-supported here, either in terms of user experience or how it's curated.

I totally agree that creating content on Hive feels different from other platforms. I have certain standards I try to meet whenever I post here. I actually stopped posting on mainstream platforms, but when I did, I noticed a clear jump in quality - not just because I improved, but also because Hive kind of demands it. That’s great in one sense, but high standards can also make it harder to attract and retain everyday content creators who are used to quicker, lighter formats.

I also fully agree with @techcoderx: Hive’s user experience still has a long way to go. There’s a lot to figure out, and that can be overwhelming. It’s frustrating that 3speak often runs into issues, and overall, short-form content still feels like an afterthought here.

Maybe the mainstream crowd will never end up on Hive. Maybe a simpler app will capture their attention first. Or maybe another platform will swoop in and grab them before Hive gets the chance. Guess we’ll see ^^
