There are theories that the AfD (and also the BSW) are close to Russia. And it's not only theories. There have been real spy scandals inside the AfD linked to Russia and China.

On top of that, there are proven Russian bot networks online, spreading fake news that plays right into the AfD's hands. People often can't tell for sure where the accounts come from, but the pattern matches what's already documented. So it's not far from the truth, and honestly, in these times, it would not surprise me at all.
