I guess I will just do the good old "leave the phone at home" thing. Take my camera and start walking. I don't join business meetings on the go, and the Hive calls I'm usually not part of anyway. So it's not a big deal for me ;)
Actually going out will be hard at the beginning. Being in the internet world and coding is just too cozy and exciting. But once it becomes a habit, I think it will be easy. The only thing that worries me a bit is the weather here in northern Europe lol. Some warm socks and a scarf should help with that I guess.
Don't be sorry for being the devil's advocate. You are absolutely right, and many people don't see these issues. It's actually a big problem with these kinds of programs. In the past we had creators who inflated their views to get a higher vote from 3Speak. That's when we added watch-time tracking, and the distribution got much fairer instantly. We keep improving this method, but we are in a good spot already.
Pay-for-watching: We have that in mind. With the watch-time tracking we already have a pretty good way to fight abuse. Just yesterday we added another barrier against farming, because some web crawler was inflating views lol. But realistically, you can't stop people from manually watching hours of videos on 3Speak to "farm" rewards. With AI we can detect them much easier and lock them out. We know their usernames and watch patterns. Anything fishy lands in the not-cool-users group in a minute :P
And in the end it's a loop: more real viewers -> more impressions -> more ad campaigns -> more creators -> more good content -> more real viewers ...
We are monitoring payouts and views constantly now. I already have a decent script that checks if the views are legit. More tools will follow of course, but we are on a good track :) The main thing we need now is more advertisers, and we are working on that.. hopefully some projects from Hive will help us with the first momentum.
The platform itself is pretty mature I would say. The viewing experience is great compared to other platforms. I just hope the backend and frontend can handle bigger user numbers well :P
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! See you around :)
