Happy New Year 2023 ... I was lost for more than a month. You know Christmas, New Year's, family, gatherings and all those things we do in December. New year new beginnings, so here I am excited to return to my knitting home, the place where I feel at ease and comfortable showing my creations.
This year I'm going to start with a needlework that I didn't show you last year for two reasons: first the time factor was not in my favor and second I didn't want to talk about this topic being in a time where everything is joy.
But notice that I am going to start the year with this topic: Illness. Uyyyyy scare. Who is not afraid of it: I am the first to raise my hand. Illness is not always welcome in the life of those who suffer from it. We usually want it to go away as soon as possible from our lives and we do not internalize the message it is leaving us.
To get into context and do not go to think that I have gone crazy to touch this topic, I tell you that last year I did a diploma in Family Constellations. It is about looking at our ancestors, seeing what happened, accepting what happened, being grateful for the learning, taking our life and taking responsibility for it.
The final degree paper turned out to be a topic that would choose us. The teacher solemnly in the middle of 2022 took a series of slips of paper with the theme, folded them and gave each of us to choose from. I was the last one to select the paper. I did it with full intention because I did not want to be touched by the theme of the disease and zaz when I took the last paper said: "The Disease and Constellations".
At that moment "Christ began to suffer" hahaha that is me! How the hell was I going to expose such a delicate subject trying to keep the attention of the public. Come on, who wants to go to a meeting to have someone talk to you about diseases. For God's sake, talk to me about life, but not about something that can end in death.
Well, this little spider woke up one early morning with the word "Eureka" - got it. A mini puppet theater. It would be a dialogue between Disease and a Human being. In the play the human being would whine and complain about so much suffering and the disease comes out of nowhere asking Did you call me?
At that moment a conversation is struck up between the characters. The disease insists on telling him "I am your friend" here I am to show you what you have not wanted to look at. The dialogue which by the way I also wrote lasted about 5 minutes and in that dialogue the disease asked the human being to accept it and see beyond the pain. To see the inner pain or the emotional pain that caused the physical pain.
The day of the exhibition I was scared, not so much for speaking in public, but for the reaction of the attendees and especially the teacher in my daring way of exposing the subject. The teacher loved the way I approached the subject and my puppets, if you haven't noticed, are woven.
Yes, I wove the characters. The human being in beige, with hair and lips. The disease as a monster. Green, with spots and bulging eyes. To make the body I used two needles and the jersey stitch (I think it's called that - if that's not the name please correct it).
Now the head, eyes and arms I crocheted. They turned out a little heavier, but with more shape, i.e. their shape was maintained. I know you may have some recommendations for me. What do you think of the final work? Could there be a way to have finished it more neatly?
See you in a future installment, thanks for reading and blessed week.
