I didn't know there was such a thing as "karma yoga", something I am learning in my yoga instructor training. The definition of karma says that every action has a reaction. So if we do good things we cleanse ourselves that negative actions happened in this life or past lives.
The curriculum to become a yoga instructor includes a subject called karma yoga, which is nothing more than selfless action in service to other people. With that intention in mind, we gathered a large group of 30 people to carry out integrative and leisure activities in a school.
This activity has not yet taken place. It is scheduled for Friday, June 16 and the whole group has already planned what activity they are going to do. I like to knit, and I have been asked to guide groups of teenagers to do an active meditation through the elaboration of Dream Catchers.
I am excited, of course, working with teenagers has me very enthusiastic, however, I have never made a dream catcher. A trifle as a friend would say, with practice and perseverance, you'll get there.
Considering that principle, this weekend I decided to weave dream catchers, which by the way are originally from the Objiwa people, native of the United States.
Its purpose is to be used as an amulet or protection over children's beds, so that, in the web-like weave, bad dreams will be trapped, and through the decorative feathers or beads, positive dreams will slip to the child in his or her bed.
I made a first dream catcher made of wool. I didn't like the result, the fluff that came out of the wool made it not very attractive. Then, I decided to use colored wick. The result was a little neater.
I made two dream catchers. I didn't put the feathers because I didn't have any, however, I put colored beads, giving it a certain beauty. They are not definitive dream catchers, they are just attempts to improve my practice.
The materials I used were metal bracelet, wick and beads. The work was done entirely with my hands, what do you think of the result, do you think I am on the right track? The method I used was by repetition observing youtube tutorials and a quick explanation given to me by a classmate.
The method of elaboration is to divide the bracelet in two equal halves and in each half make 4 stitches, only crossing the thread and linking it to the bracelet. From that first round, the thread continues to link the thread in each triangle that forms the lattice that is being woven. It is something extremely simple to do, although a little complicated to explain.
By the way, as I improve my technique, I will explain the step by step and of course, when I do the activity, I will tell you how it went with the teenagers and their active meditation, weaving a dream catcher.
See you in a future installment, thank you for reading me and blessed week.
