Happy Monday, spiders of the world!
Yesterday I finally finished, after 5 long months, Mario Bros. I wonder if the person who ordered it for me will still be excited to receive it, after 5 months the emotion goes down, the expectations are no longer the same and the desires change.
Even considering the previous points, my determination to finish it was unwavering during these months, so that it does not remain like those 12 dolls that I started about two years ago and there they are in my drawer, still without the arms.
This Mario Bros is a request from one of the many bosses I have. I know, it sounds funny, but as a freelancer, I have many bosses and they vary during the day.
In December, I gave him a container in the shape of a smiley face. She took it and after checking it out, she asked if I knit it. And when a little spider is asked about her passion, you better give her space. I immediately opened my Instagram account and showed her all the amigurumis I have made.
And then he asked me can you make a Mario Bros, is that my son has a passion for the video game and I would like to give it to him. My answer was, of course I can do it. Give me some time and I have it ready. What I never imagined is that this "give me some time" was going to turn into 5 months.
You might be wondering, 5 months to make a knitted doll? That's way over the line. Impossible, that job would take at most two weeks to complete. Hahahahaha you're right. But for my benefit I have been very busy with yoga classes (because I want to be an instructor) and this is the moment, when I start to get rid of all the academic obligations.
This weekend I saw my work. The only thing missing was the face and the cap. So I made a resolution to do nothing over the weekend. I would dedicate all my time to Mario Bros. Early Saturday morning I started my work. After noon I had the hair, the cap, the eyes in parts, the nose, the ears and the mustache. Ahhh and the yellow buttons.
I gave my hands a rest and did some exercises for my wrists. Already at two o'clock in the afternoon they were showing fatigue. I didn't want to do anything, however, a little voice whispered to me, finish it. It needs to be finished.
After lunch I went back to work. With a needle I joined all the pieces together, except for the eyes and eyebrows. I glued them with silicone. The truth is that I am not very proud of having used silicone, but by that time either I used silicone or the work was going to be stuck for another week and I was not going to allow that.
At five in the afternoon I finished. I took pictures. And like Geppetto (Pinocchio's dad), I sat down to admire my creation. I didn't like his eyes. For a moment I was tempted to tear them out. Then I remembered that as a creator and perfectionist, I will always see details in my amigurumis.
I kept it in the drawer, praying that the amigurumi fairy wouldn't want to bring it to life. I couldn't stand a live Mario Bros with those eyes. Hahaha. On the other hand, I was hoping that the next day my judgment about the eyes would change. The next day my criticism about the eyes was still intact. I thanked the universe because the fairy didn't show up. So those eyes are still there unmoving.
See you in a next installment, thanks for reading and blessed week.
