On a crisp winter morning, Darbar Sahib from the Darshini Deori.
As a child & teenager, I eagerly accompanied my taaya ji to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, at 6 am on all holidays. I never understood the kirtan, yet the vibrations were amazing. In my early 40's I discovered traditional gurmat sangeet and Bhai Sahib Bhai Avtar Singh Ragi ji. In his voice, style and persona, I felt as if the Guru's themselves were singing! The discordant voices of the jatha came together perfectly! As written by the Gurus, there was respect for the classical raagas. I pay tribute to 'Pitaji' as he was fondly known and his 'taus'....the stringed instrument he helped revive. The sangat will always be indebted to him.
