Social problems are not a cause, but a consequence. Factors such as poverty, high inflation, economic problems, chronic problems in healthcare and education, and limited government support reduce the level of well-being in society. As well-being decreases, people's propensity to commit crime increases. As people acquire something, they experience the fear of losing it. Someone with a fear of losing it doesn't tend to commit crime. Conversely, someone who has nothing is more likely to become a potential criminal.
