My husband(Vincent or Vinci) is a twin, and they both live in the same city, and like twins in many places around the world, they love to do things together. So when my sister-in-law, Dorcas reached out to me about planning a surprise party, I was ecstatic!
"How are we going to pull it off?" I asked because I know how hard it will be to surprise them. I tried some years ago but they had had caught on and only played along to make me happy.
This time around I really wished it will work.
"I think they already know we will try to make the day special, they only don't know how" she said. And that made sense.
So we got planning
The first thing we had to sort out was the venue, the birthday was on a Monday which of course will be a very busy day, so we asked for permission to celebrate it at the recovery center where they usually help out after work, but was told that the policy of the center doesn't allow too many guests in the conference room we wanted to hold it. Our hopes were crushed and then we had to think again.
My house is quite small and would not take all our guests comfortably, so we decided to use Dorcas' house, which could contain guests comfortably.
We then had to reach out to friends who were far away to send videos to wish them happy birthday. That was the tough part. My phone is accessible to almost everyone. I only have a lock because on strangers. Since I hardly care, Vinci uses my phone whenever he likes and I do the same. I managed to get a few of his friends numbers who are not in town from his phone and contacted them to send videos. That was when I changed my password and started going everywhere with my phone. LoL.
This caused a bit of tension between us because he started asking questions like: "why did you change you password?' Or "what are you hiding?" But I knew I had to be discreet. So I would reply with "what do you want from my phone" very suspicious reply I know. But that was all I got. Lol
Next up was to invite friends that were in town, even that was hard because we often go out together and I then ask to speak to the friends privately and then come up with a lie as to why I was talking with the friend alone ( I have never lied so much in my entire life🤧
Dorcas is such a good planner. She made a list of everything we needed to do and it made the preparation easy. She's pregnant by the way, but she didn't let that get in the way of our planning. Oh that reminds me, her EDD was on the 27th of January and the birthday was for 31st. Oh oh! What if the baby comes.

The next thing we did was to order for a cake.
We got a customized cake for them, they are both into tech. We got a cake with a laptop decor on it. And the inscription of Victor's website. At this point, everything was ready, we got cash gifts from friends to make the surprise a grand one! Decorations were planned, small chops, and drinks. We were truly ready. Then came our first disappointment.
On Sunday after Church, Victor showed us a cake with his website on it. Yup! Someone blew it. Dorcas and I were furious. So they figured out the cake was from us. Maybe if we maintained our cool, they would have been guessing. So we went straight to the cake designer's Instagram page and let out all our frustrations. That was very unprofessional, but we were told it was her friend who took the picture because she loved the cake, and then uploaded it. We got an apology wine for that though.
With our plans beginning to fail, we decided to let the guys know that we would be having a family dinner at Victor's, that way they will think the cake was the surprise.
By the time they closed from work and came home, our friends and family were already waiting. And when they stepped in, we all shouted "surprise" their reaction was priceless. Unfortunately, I didn't catch that on camera.

It was great to finally have a surprise party and I am glad our family and friends made it happen.
I didn't have much gift ideas for Vinci, so I got him a shoe
He loved the gift and I was glad I could finally surprise him. Now I have to think of what to get Dorcas when the baby comes. I hope I can pull up nice gifts for her and the baby.
