Hey there, Cyn! I hope you are well! To answer some of your questions, second-layer (or side chain) tokens for HIVE run through hive-engine. So people can make an almost identical front-end, like hive[dot]blog, and then when people post to these various token communities, they can also get rewarded not just in HIVE but also in the relevant side-chain tokens.

So if you look at proofofbrain.io, you can see what I mean. Currently, the POB token is about half the value of a HIVE. For a while there, it was more valuable than HIVE. Then an antisocial whale with malicious-downvote tendencies had their stake censored in that community because they only joined to gang stalk a particular individual.

Stake censorship means they couldn't upvote or downvote with their POB stake power. The bad actor got disarmed because it was pretty clear by the voting behavior that they were up to no good. So s/he complained in a HIVE post and portrayed themselves as the victim. But this is good because it caused some bad apples who like to bully to sell their tokens to the market. And that gives people the opportunity to buy cheaper POB.

The leader of the POB community did end up un-censoring that person's stake. Additionally: a means of democratic governance was invoked to try and see if the community wants this change. That will be a time-consuming process that won't get solved overnight.

As for malicious comments, the internet is full of irreverent pricks and douchelords. I am one of them from time to time, but I generally try and aim to be nice to decent people. I guess we can only do our best to either try and treat people accordingly and or decide if we want to give them any attention at all.

So that original legacy PoB (Proof of Brain) from Steem's blue paper was a theory that failed to realize itself in reality. I give the thinkers in that situation an E for effort. However, because of dPoS you cannot harness the crowd wisdom—it's not possible. The crowd wisdom is a specific and magical thing if it can get successfully harnessed.

I'm sure you've seen it done a million times in tv game shows; Usually, a contestant has an out where they can turn to the crowd for help, and they will guide the contestant accurately almost 100% of the time. That's the crowd wisdom, and it's fantastic if you can set the stage in such a way as to make it happen.

Steem and HIVE cannot implement this because of dPoS. However, that doesn't mean that we should throw out the baby with the bathwater. Proof of Brain is a noble and high ideal. So someone made a community (or side chain) token with that name. Ultimately, we realize that one of the biggest obstacles to Proof of Brain is mindless and malicious downvotes.

And if we can sort out community guidelines before we get caustic and toxic whales in the POB arena, the more intelligent the community will be overall. Antisocial and malicious downvoters are not a sign of intelligence or brains, so if they can get their power weeded out by the community, that's a good thing in the long run.

The good news is that antisocial personality disorder is fractional at best concerning the overall population. I've seen an estimate of 3.3% tops. That's three persons and one little person per 100 people. "There are always those who don't care and maliciously downvote for ridiculous reasons instead of using their words and speaking to the poster." What you say is true, but only so long as communities allow it.

For this communication, when I reference outer-HIVE, I mean HIVE referred to in the context of outside-of-any-given community. First, there was HIVE, then the communities. Also, my understanding of dPoS might be rudimentary at best. I think of it as the law of the jungle.

A lion can kill a gazelle, but that doesn't necessarily make it moral or ethical. Some say: If power allows you to do something on the blockchain, then no matter what you do, you can do no wrong because you had the power. And this, I believe, is a collocal failure of logic.
