Altruism is only genuinely possible if you enjoy it. If you take pleasure in your giving, you are also doing it for yourself, which makes it not what it claims to be. Contrarily, if you do not enjoy it, perhaps you are trying to bribe a diety, and that too is not the thing. Mayhaps the thing is illusory, a concept we tell ourselves to make ourselves feel good about ourselves? Giving can be good or bad, but it's not necessarily selfless.
