No doubt. I think freeing up insurance providers to compete across state lines is half the battle, that should put the kibosh on regional monopolies and force the various providers to compete and bargain better on behalf of their customers. As it is currently, the providers and Health care institutions coordinate either consciously or unconsciously to price gouge the insured. The practice of hospitals obfuscating their shenanigans with summary bills prevents people from screaming rape when their insurance company is charged $629 for a Band-Aid or $25 for an Aspirin that they could've received over the counter for a fraction of the price.

Not only does it prevent them from screaming rape but most people aren't able or don't have the time to put one and two together, and see how the fraudulent charges ultimately end up carrying over to their monthly premiums. I think what's evolved since WWII is already broken, and insurance companies were likely forced by their own laziness to lobby government to coerce people into buying insurance for a shitty product that most folks would rather skip altogether. Unfortunately for all Americans, the two industries thrive off of the fear and the desperation people have when they are in immediate need. Not so long ago, Jerry Day did an interesting video about taking control of your healthcare costs. It's pretty interesting.
