Holiday

This week it was holy week and therefore the kids were off until Easter Monday. Usually, it means that there will be somewhat frustration at times to keep the little one busy without having her glued to the screen. Thankfully, we've seemed to make a smart decision by gifting her a digital pen for the tablet recently when it was her birthday. Although she's not using it daily, I've already noticed she seems to like it a lot and have a feeling for it, which we were hoping for.

"Bad" weather

Now I don't recall this from last year to be the case but this last month or so we've been having a lot of stormy days as well as a lot of rain. The winter of 2022/2023 I had to buy a coat for the few rainy days we had, which was actually way too hot to wear but only needed for the rain as we didn't have a car yet. I recall wearing it only 2-3 times that whole winter and thought to myself, what a waste of money. This year has been different though, a lot more rain and especially days full of rain or even a rainy weekend. It almost felt like a typical Dutch winter day some of these times that it happened.

Opportunity

The good thing about these bad weather days is that it creates an opportunity to do things inside such as use the digital pen she received. I was very happy to walk into her room and find her drawing on the tablet here:

I would usually tell her be smart and have better posture to avoid your neck from hurting but she was in a good flow and I didn't want to take her out of it so I left it as I felt bad for her having to be inside so many days with this rainy week predicted. These moments it's best to just give her slack, especially as she had another amazing report card for the second trimester and as long as she's behaving well, let her be.

Look mom!

She instantly wanted to show her what she was creating and said she was creating a self portrait which I thought was quite fun. She is very happy with her second hand outfit that I scored recently and really loves wearing it. She used it as her inspiration for one of these early digital drawings which I'm now trying to capture so we can see a timeline of her creations later.

Bad hair days

With her being inside much, building tents as well as using the bed as her drawing station like in the picture, she had almost constant bad hair days lol. Another thing which I didn't worry about and looking back, I'm glad I didn't because the whole holiday week flew by fast and with her things all went very smooth with just a few minor irritations and arguments. She's definitely growing up fast and getting smarter, which is lovely.

First self portrait

So now we have it here on the blockchain, no matter what happens with the original file, or if computers crash one day, her very first digital self portrait just after receiving her first digital pen to draw on the tablet with is stored on-chain forever. I'm curious to see how her artsy journey will evolve and I will do anything to help her explore this journey in every way possible. She's such a creative soul that I want to hand her the tools needed to be able to learn as much as she can and finds interesting. The earlier she does this the better.

It could possibly turn out to be a phase the love for digital drawings, but I have the feeling it might become the new normal soon. Let's see what she comes up with next...
