Hey, Hive friends! How about I tell you about a disturbing game today to kick off this Friday? I understand that not too long ago it went somewhat unnoticed, but then it gained recognition thanks to some reviews that various people online wrote about it. What surprises me is that, given its explicit content, it’s available on Steam—because we’re talking about gore, sexual abuse, mutilation, grotesque monsters, nudity, and every horrible thing you can imagine. All of this was created using the RPG Maker game engine, so while it may look a bit limited graphically, Fear & Hunger has one of the darkest atmospheres ever seen in the video game industry—so much so that you really feel oppressed by it, often wanting to stop playing, perhaps because of how unfair and unpleasant it can get. Right from the start, we’ll find ourselves in a field where, out of sheer human curiosity, we’ll give in to our curiosity and scan the map for any objects or items that might be useful. The game will immediately—but surprisingly—punish us for that: we’ll hear some barking, but we won’t pay attention until three giant rabid dogs—or maybe wolves?—come to attack us. You’ll think you can kill them; it’s a simple RPG, but as expected, you’ve met your first death; there was nothing you could do about it. You’ll have to start over from the beginning. You know you made a mistake and decide to head straight into the dungeon. There are no dogs this time, but there are monsters. They must be easier than the dogs, right? And that’s what Fear & Hunger will be all about most of the time: it’ll be a constant process of trial and error just to survive. Even though you gain experience, you can’t level up to get stronger and defeat your enemies; it’ll all come down to pure strategy. You’ll have to learn which body parts your enemies use to attack and their attack patterns in order to stop them, since in this combat system you don’t attack the enemy as a single unit—instead, it’s divided into body parts. Therefore, you can strategically maim it by severing its limbs to finish it off; but if you can do this, enemies can obviously do the same to you. So get ready to lose your arms (you won’t be able to equip anything if you lose both), your legs (you’ll move slower across the map, making you easy prey), or die instantly if you lose your head. And if you think that isn’t complicated enough, you can also contract diseases, and if you don’t have anything to heal yourself with, you can always resort to mutilating yourself. Even saving your game will be a matter of pure luck: you’ll only be able to do so if you win a coin toss; if you fail, you might even get attacked while you sleep. Tengo entendido que hasta hace no mucho tiempo pasó un poco desapercibido, pero luego tomó reconocimiento gracias a algunas reseñas que varias personas en Internet llegaron a hacerle. Lo que me sorprende es que, con el contenido explícito que tiene, esté publicado en Steam, porque estamos hablando de gore, abuso sexual, mutilaciones, monstruos grotescos, desnudos y todo lo horrible que te puedas imaginar. Todo esto creado con el motor de videojuegos RPG Maker, por lo que, aunque se vea un poco limitado en el aspecto gráfico, Fear & Hunger tiene uno de los ambientes más sombríos que se ha visto en la industria de los videojuegos; tanto que realmente te sientes oprimido por él, queriendo muchas veces dejar de jugar, quizás por lo injusto y desagradable que puede llegar a ser. Nada más comenzar, nos colocaremos en un campo donde, por mero instinto humano, pecaremos de curiosos y revisaremos el mapa en busca de algún objeto o algo que nos sirva. El juego, inmediatamente pero de forma sorpresiva, nos castigará por eso: escucharemos unos ladridos, no les prestaremos atención hasta que vengan tres perros rabiosos —¿o quizás lobos?— gigantes a atacarnos. Pensarás que podrás matarlos, es un simple RPG, pero como era de esperar te topaste con tu primera muerte; no pudiste hacer nada al respecto. Tocará comenzar otra vez desde el comienzo. Sabes que cometiste un error y decides entrar de una vez a la mazmorra. No hay perros esta vez, pero sí hay monstruos. ¿Deben ser más sencillos que los perros, no? Y es que de eso tratará Fear & Hunger la mayor parte del tiempo: todo será una constante prueba y error para poder sobrevivir. Aunque ganes experiencia, no es posible subir de nivel para hacerte más fuerte y ganarle a los enemigos; todo consistirá en pura estrategia. Tendrás que aprender con qué parte del cuerpo atacan tus enemigos y sus patrones de ataque para poder detenerlos, ya que en este sistema de combate no atacas al enemigo en sí mismo como unidad, sino que está dividido en partes de su cuerpo. Por lo tanto, podrás mutilarlo para quitarle sus extremidades de forma estratégica y acabar con él; pero si tú puedes hacer esto, evidentemente los enemigos pueden hacerte lo mismo. Así que prepárate para quedarte sin brazos (no podrás equipar nada si pierdes ambos), sin piernas (irás más lento por el mapa, siendo presa fácil) o morir instantáneamente por perder tu cabeza. Y si piensas que esto no es lo suficientemente complicado, también podrás contraer enfermedades y, si no tienes con qué curarte, siempre podrás recurrir a mutilarte a ti mismo. Incluso guardar la partida será pura cuestión de suerte: solo podrás conseguirlo si ganas un cara o cruz; si fallas, hasta tienes la posibilidad de ser atacado mientras duermes. ¿Estás preparado para los males que te esperan en Fear & Hunger? ¿Qué te parece el juego?
