Suggestion to Add Feature to Work Multiple Projects in Logisim Digital Simulator
Can be downloaded at https://logisim.en.uptodown.com/windows
Components
Logisim is a circuit simulator intended for digital circuits. Its operation in simulation is simple and friendly to user.
What bothers me in Logisim is that I cannot work or can not create multiple projects with in a single window. The only way to do or create multiple projects is to open another window of Logisim. I found it inconvenient because opening another window to my laptop will result to additional activity to my laptop and it consumes more power and consumes more memory. Another thing is also time consuming because whenever I go to another project, it needs to go to another window even if it has shortcut like (Alt+Tab) it still consume time and can cause delays.
Multiple project cannot be avoided sometimes specially when we are working on a complex circuit. We need to separate the simulation on each part of circuit to easily identify the problem or which part is not performing according to the plan. Or sometimes, we are working on a unfinished project but, we want to begin another project. Some just want to work multiple project with their own reason.
So, I want to suggest a feature in which users can work multiple projects within a single window for Logisim digital simulator.
Proposal
What I am proposing here is to add a tab feature that will automatically create whenever the user will create a project.
This is my proposal in order for Logisim to provide a feature that can work multiple projects. If the user wishes to create another project, a separate tab will be created intended for the new project. Instead of loading the new project to another Logisim window, it will now be loaded to another tab with in the same window.
Mockups / Examples
Here are the example on how the suggestion will work.
This is the current set up of Logisim when creating a project.
The title of the project will be displayed on the header of Logisim window. In this case the project name is "Untitled"
We will open another project named "Untitled 2".
It created another window for the new project.
When the suggestion will be implemented, it will work like this.
When a user create a project, the project name will no longer at the header of Logisim window. Instead, a tab will be created with the project name as its title.
If the user wishes to open a new project, it will be opened in another tab. In order to identify the tab on which the user is working, the activated tab will have a different color.
Benefits
Here are the benefits if implemented:
- Users will be able to work on multiple projects with in the same Logisim window.
- Additional memory used when opening another window will be eliminated. This additional memory can affect the operating speed of computers.
- It is much easier for the user to switch tabs within the same window than switching windows to work on another projects.
