Flagellates are a very large and diverse group of protozoa, widely distributed in nature. Their characteristic feature is the presence of flagella - the organs of movement. Flagella are the thinnest hair - like outgrowths of the cytoplasm, the length of which sometimes considerably exceeds the length of the body. The active and rapid movement of the flagella determines the forward movement of the protozoan. Their number may be different. Most often there is only one flagellum, often there are two sometimes. There are some types of flagellates, the number of flagella in which can reach several tens and even hundreds. Unlike sarcodes, most flagellates have a more or less constant shape.
