I’ve only recently learned that antisemitism is a historical term meaning hostility toward Jews. Since it was coined in the 19th century, it was never meant to describe prejudice against all Semitic language speakers. So, criticism of the government of Israel is political, while antisemitism specifically refers to prejudice against Jews as a people. It’s kind of confusing because “Semitic” refers to a language family, so I can see how it can be misleading. Agree that it is a wrong word, but over time it became the fixed definition in English. Lol.
