Imagine going to work one day at a construction site and suddenly coming across millions of euros in gold. In Belgium, workers made a shocking discovery while conducting sewer repairs.
A treasure trove of gold estimated to be worth around €9 million has been discovered by the workers in Sint-Gillis-Dendermonde, Belgium on 11 August 2026. According to reports by The Guardian, among the workers was an 18-year-old student worker named Kobe. What started off as a simple extraction of coins turned into a plethora of golden finds, which included bars, coins, and nuggets.
As per reports, what the workers had discovered had actually been hidden in a bag that was bricked into a cellar wall beneath the former home of a brewery owner. They managed to retrieve 49 bars of gold and different kinds of gold items.
The workers decided to disclose their good luck to their superiors and the police so that it could be dealt with properly. They mentioned afterwards that they had thought for a while about keeping it to themselves but concluded that it was too huge a sum to manage and that it would be considered stealing.
Authorities are working to find out the owners of the home where the gold had been stored.
The discovery has caught people's attention, as it shows the curiosity of finding a treasure as part of a normal construction project.
